8 tOP TIPSHAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF Keep a positive attitude. You CAN do this and you can do it well! PLAN - Make a list of all the subjects that you need to revise. - Make an exam timetable. - Using your exam timetable prioritise which subjects you need to revise soonest. - Create a revision timetable that allows you to revise 1-2 subjects a day, e.g Maths and chemistry on a Monday, English and History on a Tuesday....etc. - Create a mini timetable for each revision day. Make sure you allow for breaks and create revision slots that are of a length that suit you. - Plan to revise the subjects you struggle with most at a time of day you concentrate the most, as this will help you be more effective at revising them! REMEMBER YOU ARE UNIQUE! Everyone has a way of working that suits them best. You are unique and the way your brain absorbs information may be different to the way someone else's does. For example, one person may find it helpful to revise with music, whilst another may find it more helpful to revise in silence. Find a technique that works for you and don't worry about what everyone else is doing! FIND A GOOD PLACE TO WORK A good place to start is finding a space without distractions, that is uncluttered and somewhere you feel comfortable. TEST YOURSELF Past papers and quick quizzes are really useful to see which areas you need to work on a bit more, and which areas you understand well and can leave for a bit! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! If you realise there is something you do not understand, just ask for help! It is OK if you get stuck or stressed. Most people have experienced exams and know how stressful it can be! Teachers, friends and parents are all available to support you: they will be able to sympathise and give you suggestions on how to deal with your emotions, or how to understand something you are stuck on! TAKE REGULAR BREAKS It is so important to make sure you have regular breaks during your revision. A fifteen minute break every hour on revision days will allow your brain to rest and give you time to have a snack and drink. A day off once a week to do something fun is also beneficial! Our brains are very clever and continue to process and work out what has been revised even when we are not revising: so a break is actually necessary for the revision process! LOOK AFTER YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH During a period of revision it can be easy to not eat properly, work late into the night and not exercise. Try to get into the habit of eating properly, getting a good amount of sleep and some exercise (even if it's just a 20 min walk round the block). All these things will help reduce stress levels and allow you to concentrate and process your revision better! |
